Making Story Time more Meaningful... For you and your child

PLEASE.....

• Arrive on time
• Have your child use the bathroom BEFORE story time begins
• Stay with your child at ALL times
• Participate..... it is fun... it is a family story time and a special bonding experience for you and your child
• Talk to other parents and friends AFTER story time
• Respond to your child’s needs. If your child is getting wiggly, please take your child outside the story time area
• Talk to your child about appropriate library manners: no running, yelling or screaming are allowed
• Do not allow your child to brings toys to story time, as they are a distraction to everyone else
• Reinforce story time by looking for fun books to check out and take home to enjoy till your next visit to the Library
• No eating or drinking by patrons is allowed in the Library

Story Time will provide your child with:

• An introduction to a wide range of children’s stories and books.
• The experience of meeting, socializing and sharing with other children.
• An opportunity to develop language and motor skills.
• A love and appreciation of books and libraries.

THERAPY DOGS INTERNATIONAL

PROGRAM GOAL AND OBJECTIVE:

The main objective of this program is to provide a relaxed and “dog-friendly” atmosphere, which allows a child to practice the skill of reading. Many of the children that come to this program have difficulties reading and as a result have developed self-esteem issues. They are often self-conscious when reading aloud in front of other classmates. By sitting down next to a dog and reading to the dog, all threats of being judged are put aside. The child relaxes, pats the attentive dog, and focuses on the reading. Reading improves because the child is practicing the skill of reading, building self-esteem, and associating reading with something pleasant.
